The Cambria Centre

For latest information visit the News Section which includes the response to the Ministerial Review which has recommended that the Welsh Assembly should not to support the Cambria Project.

Principal Annie Williams stated that 'The Association is disappointed by many elements of the report but is keen to emphasise its determination to continue to provide residential opportunities for adult learners in Harlech. It will now put together a forward plan for the estate, curriculum and business generation that builds on the strengths identified in the Estyn inspection of the College. It will also find new ways of supporting students and generating additional sources of income'.

Coleg Harlech WEA has gained planning permission for the comprehensive redevelopment of its Wern Fawr Campus, Harlech which is also occupied by Theatr Harlech. This development is complementary to the plans being prepared for the creation of a 5 Star 'destination' Hotel on the adjacent site of the now derelict St David's Hotel.

This will be a visionary development of great regional and national significance and will provide both the infrastructure and impetus for business and tourism development in the Region.

Implementing the plan would turn it into a multi-functional asset, and 24 hour/7 days a week/52 weeks a year facility. This will not only address the needs of Coleg Harlech as an educational institution but also provide first class services for tourism and business markets.

The local communities will benefit from having a first class resource which as well as providing adult education will include – enhanced library; theatre and workshop space; exhibition and conference provisions; areas for community theatre, choirs, dance; a venue for social events and eating out; and genesis units for business development.

The combined activities on offer in the Hotel and Cambria Centre will generate many new job opportunities. The College is committed to working with the local community to ensure that local people benefit from the jobs on offer and the opportunities that will be created for training and skills development.
